Life has been a buzz and a blur for a semester now, and I sincerely do not know how it all ended so quickly. one moment I am jus t getting down at the railway station, the other moment I am reserving tickets to go back.

Life goes by pretty fast if you’re living it over and over and over again perhaps….

The Right to Free Speech

Bundled with the right to free speech comes the duty to use it responsibly. With the advent of technology anyone and everyone is able to make a comment, irrespective of their credentials. THIS is exactly what afflicts our media today. The right to free speech should implicitly imply the duty of bearing responsibility for what you say, but since our constitution provides for rights by birth and makes it optional for citizens to satisfy their duties, the duty has fallen into misuse and neglect. As educated Indians it is our foremost mission to ensure that we are entirely responsible for the words leaving our mouths, and verify the truth of the statements we make before we make them.

While people blogging today use simplified language to exercise their right to free speech, others still contort, distort and convolute the Queen’s language in a million unimaginable ways to produce unintelligible crap that will turn your insides out without any reasonable change in your mental setup. In my opinion a piece of writing must be so profound yet so simply authored that it can uplift the simplest of minds, like a stepping stone that satisfies man’s curiosity to find out what is on the attic, rather than a pagan idol, immensely revered and serving no real purpose.I would rather my writing be a stone than an elaborately sculpted idol. Although this post is complicated in its own way, I still maintain that I will endeavor to make this experience as easy going and peaceful as possible for the relaxed reader. Here’s to you, reader.My new blog.

Such a blatant disregard for the rights of humankind! Such ruthlessness! Such barbarism! That China, which was once considered the mother of east asian civilization and culture, could stoop down to such depths to get another piece of land is unimaginable. To attack a country full of defenseless, peace loving people, to rend their lives apart, to tighten the noose around the neck of a country whose already broken back has rendered it unable to move.. what word can even describe the barbarism exhibited by once the richest civilization in Asia?

Maybe it is time for the chinese government to wake up and smell the tea leaves…To understand that you are strong is strength. To understand that you need not use your strength on weaklings is greatness. China should decide if it wants to become a strong nation, or a great nation. And the people of china are the only ones who can stop this raging fire across tibet.

Have you ever thought if a person who craves your sympathy deserves it? Or maybe your money.. maybe he needs your love.. maybe .

Have you ever been bitten by a leech? Do you know what it does?It sucks blood. Till it engorges and becomes full. It does not know where to stop.It does not know how much satiates it..unable to differentiate between how much is required and how much is extra, it drops down from your leg in contentment, splats on the ground, bursts and dies.

Would you feel a sympathy because the leech died?

Many times it so happens in our life that we give a person something he does not deserve simply because he does not deserve it. If the person degenerates in spite of your help, is it his mistake?

Questions.A wise man once said “Dont ask questions for which you know the other guy has no answers”.

To Lead or To Control

In the Principles of Management class, we had the other day, a mind numbing discussion in which I did not take part for ob reasons .

Sometimes I have a feeling Numb-er Theory is about Linkin Park.Thats another story.

Power: To lead or to control? Let me ask you a straight question. With enormous power, would you lead ?Or control?

I would love to control, but to see that the power does not escalate to a feeling of oh-I’m-so-great ness I would need a great force,an even powerful one, looking at me from the top.

However much I try I cannot let go of the concept that Power has to have a limit. Everyone knows what limitless power can do,unless the person wielding it has great training.God, for example.

Here’s a prime example of “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” offered by an English professor from the University of Phoenix:
The professor told his class one day: “Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story and send it back, also sending another copy to me. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back-and-forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached.”

THE STORY:

At first, Laurie couldn’t decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.

Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. “A.S. Harris to Geostation 17,” he said into his transgalactic communicator. “Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far…” But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship’s cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.

He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. “Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel,” Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. “Why must one lose one’s innocence to become a woman?” she pondered wistfully.

The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu’udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid Laurie.

My attempt at ‘Plogging’

A lot of blogs I’m visiting nowadays seem to have taken to ‘plogging’ or poetic blogging.Especially the girls. Dont know what propels them to do it, but they plog like hell. I say to myself, what-the-fourletterword! No, this is not right! I mean, its good if you write like Sarojini Naidu, my dear nightingale, but why,oh why do the words ‘lonely’,'dark’,'tears’.. all this stuff.. why does it even deserve to be on the poem? Go get a life! Life is about smiling.Live the life the yoyo-way.Do some yoyo. Simple. Here is my attempt at plogging, though I am doing this just for the sake of plogging.My interests lie in prose.Not in poetry.Prose has a lot of direct meanings.Slap on the face,thats what prose is.That is what I am.And poetry is quite the opposite.Nowadays poetry has taken the shape of ‘rhyming prose’. Now, take a look at this

Now whatever you do, make sure you cry, make sure it’s dark, and make sure you’re lonely, ok? Way to go. NOW you’re learning to plog.Module 1 of “Introduction to Plogging” complete.

Ahh where was I? Yes, Poetry n Prose.. Now Poetry, on the other hand , has a lot of inner meaning and undercurrents (atleast it did when I was in 10th std. reading and trying to decode encrypted stuff by Wordsworth and Frost..) Now people simply dont care. All you need is the rhyme to get you going.

Now I’m doing this again,. but with love.. obviously not successful. It’s a failed love story, mind you, courtesy hmm let us say.. Romeo Juliet

Believe me when I’m saying these plogs took me not more than a minute to write.All you need is a little rhyme and a little crying capacity with the tube lights off and the LCD brightness down to the lowest level.Also make sure sad music is playing in the background, preferably a love failure song.

Insanity and Genius

Why do I have these wierd feelings that Insanity and Genius are in some way interlinked?

Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.He was true.Then what is genius? Doing different things? Or doing things differently?Doing things differently is winning,so can we safely assume winning is the factor that makes all the difference?

Whoever wrote the line “The difference between insanity and genius, Mr.Bond, is only measured by success”in the movie ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ was a sound judge of character.But I do find some exceptions to this rule.Genius, in art, in science or in philosophy does have a limit. When it goes over the top, no one can stop the machine from crumbling to dust.The difference is wafer thin, and it just keeps getting thinner and thinner.

I was watching Michael Jackson in action the other day. Sheer genius . He is a prodigy, there is no denying that. Anyone who has seen his videos, or seen him perform live are lucky.But how far has genius taken him?Everyone knows.Britney Spears,Angelina Jolie..more and more examples follow.God-gifted voice,breathtaking beauty.Britney Spears.One of the most beautiful and talented actresses on the silver screen.Angelina Jolie.These examples are well known.The details of these celebrities are hazy, however they lead highly stressed out, sedentary lifestyles .They have had enormous success, but that didnt stop them from ruining their lives, as well as the ones of those near and dear. Lucky Angie came out of rehab unscathed and is now leading a more laid-back life. So success is not a measuring rod.
